Question about resolution on previous HP TSV

Back during the latter part of November, I ordered the HP TSV which was the 17-inch laptop with I5. Believe it or not, I didn't bother to actually get it out and use it until a few days ago. I know--shame on me!!

Anyway, everything seems to be working fine on it except for how images appear. I knew when I purchased it that it didn't have the resolution I wanted ( it has 1600x900), but I decided to give it a chance and see when I got it if it would be acceptable to me. Well, I'm somewhat disappointed. First I noticed that text didn't seem to be as dark as I would like, especially since my vision isn't the greatest. So, I used ClearType to improve that.

However, images are still somewhat fuzzy. On my older computers, when I go shopping online, images of products are nice and clear, but with this computer, they look a little blurry and out of focus. Is there anything I can change in settings to improve this? If not, guess I'll send this back because I need to have clear pictures of things. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Did you try HP customer support?

Re: Question about resolution on previous HP TSV

There is a YouTube video available if you get a chance to view that talks about how to resolve this issue.... just a suggestion...

Re: Question about resolution on previous HP TSV

I don't think the resolution is the problem. I have an HP laptop that's over 8 years old with the same resolution, and the display is still perfect. You might want to try posting on HP's Notebook Video, Display and Touch support forum.

Re: Question about resolution on previous HP TSV

The resolution is very low resolution, a 900p display in 2022/2023 is simply unacceptable!  All laptos should come standard in FULL HD (1080p).  I refused to buy the black Friday laptop because of this.  I'm tired of QVC pumping out these cheap displays.  It doesn't cost that much to put a full HD panel in these suckers!

I have the same issue. Bought this 17 HP at the start of the pandemic, knowing how many movies I would be watching. My older HP would get hot and freeze. However, the letter legibility (darkness and clarity) are still far superior on my old one. I even had my son play around with settings but nothing  improved it. I think it's a combo of different LED's vs LCD's (like I would know lol) and the resolution. I also have really bad vision, and grayish lettering is the last thing I need. At this point I can't even tell some letters and numbers apart. I dont have an answer. It does play movies well, which is what I wanted. Typing and reading is miserable.

Re: Question about resolution on previous HP TSV

@Desi --Like you, videos look fine, but the text could be better. I played around with ClearType to try and make it better, but it didn't help that much. Fortunately,  I've gotten used to it by now. Next time I buy a computer, however, I'm going to make sure I get one that is clearer. I also have some vision problems, and by the time I'm ready for another computer, I'm really going to need text that is nice and sharp and dark enough.

qualityshopper, wish I could bookmark this thread so I can see what you purchase next time. Sounds like we need the same thing. Not 10 minutes ago, the 1/2 inch crack on the top left of my keyboard (near the plug) became a 2 inch crack! Seems to be an issue with HP. My last two got so hot that same area started cracking and basically disintegrating. Anyway, this one is SSD so not hot, but there seems to be stress there from the heavy top causing too much stress on the bottom. Hope yours lasts a long time! Hoping I won't have to deal with the crack, we'll see. I had upped the insurance plan but it's probably expired.
