Question About iPod Touch

Hi, hope someone here can help me. I have an iPod Touch and love it. But, I've been trying to connect to WiFi and can't. When I try to connect to a network, it asks for a password. Question: where do I find the password? Is the problem that I don't have a wireless router - I just have a DSL connection? I did get the Touch mainly for music, but I'd love to be abke to access all the other great stuff available. Thanks in advance for youir help!
