Re: Question About Wireless Router

I don't have comcast but I think if you have comcast you can save about 8.00 a month if you buy your own modem router but you have to make sure it's compatible with comcast/xfinity and says that on the box.

Verizon wouldn't give me a new modem but wanted to sell me a new wireless modem router so I bought it elsewhere about 20.00 cheaper.

Re: Question About Wireless Router

happygal my router is working fine. I just thought that since I have it about 4 or 5 years maybe I should get a new one . This Almond router seemed like it wasn't that hard to set up myself. I read a review and it wasn't very favorable.

Re: Question About Wireless Router

Because it was so difficult and confusing for people, many new routers come with a default user name and password from the factory. If you ever look at the list of wireless networks in range, you'll see several with names that are one letter or number different. That's because they are Belkin or Netgear and are using the default settings. The user name and password in on the bottom or side of the router in case you forget.

When I bought a new Linksys N wireless router, I got into the router's settings and set it to the same name and password as my old one. That way, everything connected automatically and I didn't have to reconnect my devices. If you can read instructions, you can change the default user name and password for any new router.

Well I don't really know now because when I click on the one star reviews there seems to be a lot from december 2014.

Reading most of them so far looks like user error mostly. Like on saying it's "useless mobile".

I'm not so sure I'm going to get this. They're confusing me stating that Almond has a password for the router. I would want to put my own password on it. I also read a review saying it wasn't that good. My router I have works okay, but was just wondering if I needed an upgrade.

Where did you read the review? Personally I ignore reviews on any site that doesn't require a verified purchase to post. In Amazon's case even with verified purchase their liberal return policy allows for a lot of bogus reviews. You have to review the reviewer.

I you have purchased newer devices they may benefit from the increased speed. Do you mind giving us the model # of your old router?

Re: Question About Wireless Router

It's a Cisco Linksys E1000. I goggled the router and an article came up from a magazine, I think.I got the router when I purchased my computer from Best Buy. It was a deal where you got a router and virus protection software for a certain price. I'm sure the router I got wasn't the very best.

I got a new Netgear Router from Costco this November, works great.

Very easy to install. Get the newest band you can which I think is O

If you want to keep your password just be sure to write it down before you change them.

We've had a NetGear Router, that we purchased from Staples, for over 2 years now, it's great! We changed the settings and our password because a neighbor was usurping our HughesNet gigs (which are super expensive)...and it worked like a charm! Our home devices -- our PC, DS's laptop, and my Kindle -- are authorized to use the router and Any hackers are out of luck. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

You would be just going from N to N so no improvement. If you were going to upgrade and if any of your other devices support it you would want to go to a A or AC.

I have used a Netgear 4300 for 16 months that runs well and was easy to setup. I only have two devices with AC cards. It is not the right time for me to replace my router with an expensive Netgear Nighthawk R7000 for $190.

This router is a simple single band product. The price of $89 is a bit expensive. Here is a simple single band product from Netgear. http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-RangeMax-WNR1000-Wireless-Rou/dp/B001UI4RTG/ref=zg_bster_300189_6
