Re: QUESTION ABOUT CLEARING JUNK FROM COMPUTER

If you use google chrome...

1) Go to the three vertical dots in the upper right hand corner and click

2) From the dropdown..click on "History"

3) From that screen..click on "Clear browsing data" located on the left of the page.

I also use Norton security and they offer features that will clear temporary files and internet files.  They also have a feature to defragment.

Most brands of computers security will offer these basic features.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT CLEARING JUNK FROM COMPUTER

@gardenman

Thankyou and may I ask you a question, please?

My DH and I were talking about CC CLEANER this morning.

He uses Microsoft 10 laptop and said he is getting tired of ads that pop up and also he can’t figure out how best to get rid of programs that startup when he turns the computer on.

Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

@LTT1

In the TASK MANAGER go to the Startup tab.  The Startup tab screen shows what starts and you can click the ones you want to disable there. HTH

Re: QUESTION ABOUT CLEARING JUNK FROM COMPUTER

@SilleeMee

Thank you so much!

Have you ever had a program (McAfee) that won’t let you delete it?

A warning msg comes on that somehow the program is tied into basic workings of the computer and it will mean harm ultimately if you try yo delete?

You're welcome @LTT1

Yes, I have had a few problems attempting to delete unwanted programs and deleting them could cause problems but I never knew exactly what kind of problems...so I just disable or ignore them.

Did he say use ”CC Cleaner?”

I didn’t often run the CC Cleaner. (Should have)

If the CC Cleaner gives one the option of eliminating programs that have installed themselves, this would be a great time to get rid of those.

I'm sure it wasn't "CC Cleaner", CPU comes to mind.  With all the info here I think I can get an idea of what I need to do.  Since my daughter is a lot more computer savvy than I am I'll have her read all the posts.  Thanks again for your help.

In the clean up process don't forget the registry.  A lot of junk collects there and slow things down.

I never touch the registry. Something could go wrong,and a system will stop running. You could get a Blue screen of Death. The  only way to recover would be a system restore, If you could get there?
