Problems with Google Chrome and floppy disk drive

From what I've read on Chrome's forums, I'm not the only one to have a problem with Chrome trying to access my floppy disk drive when I open the browser. Obviously, this is happening on an old computer I have that uses Windows XP, SP3. Every time I launch Chrome, the LED light comes on, indicating that the drive is being accessed, and you hear the normal sound that one would expect to hear when that happens. As long as I go from site to site without clicking out of Chrome, no problem. It's just when you first launch the home page.

Apparently this has been going on for quite some time (for me, it just started early yesterday morning). They know about the problem and are, supposedly, working to fix it. Meanwhile, was wondering if I should disable my floppy disk drive and, if I did, would that solve the problem on my end? I no longer have any floppies and really don't need the drive. Just wondering if disabling the drive could possibly cause any other kind of problems for me. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.
