Problem with Amazon and Safari Question

Hi. I am suddenly having problem clicking on items on Amazon and getting blank screen saying too many redirects. It seems to be only Amazon. The site downloads fine. I checked for possible fixes and went  to settings and deleted most the website data individually, and all Amazon related. I didn’t want to eliminate it all. Would appreciate any help. Thank you, Susi.

@Susic

What type of device are you using?

If everything is cleared out, you might have better luck.

Our gateway has needed to be reset at least once per day lately, so that might help too.

Re: Problem with Amazon and Safari Question

I have an IPad. Apparently with one of the updates it may have caused this snafu. I may have to switch to Chrome browser, or do the total wipeout. Sounds like a big todo, and it is only Amazon affected. Thank you for responding!

Re: Problem with Amazon and Safari Question

Well, I wiped out all the website data and it worked, now I can browse on Amazon again. Wonder why it was just Amazon, I will never know. Guess it was a good idea to clean out all those websites, as had no idea what most of them were. Thank you LTT1

@Susic

I’m having the same problem.  How do you wipe out website data?

ETA: I haven’t done any recent updates.

Was it just with Amazon?

Per some site I asked  how to fix , it recommended to go to settings, click on Safari, click advanced, then click website data, and then click on remove all website data, or you can just remove certain sites individually.  Had to remove them all as there are hundreds in there, and that didn’t help me. There is an alert that you will lose  some data, but so far I have been ok and just had to put in passwords again on some sites. Day is still young, so hoping I didn’t cause any other problems. This is for IPad. . Good luck!

               Greetings, @Susic@ Montana, and @LTT1!   Just a note about regular iPad or iPhone maintenance (I call it "housekeeping").    The stored Safari (or other browser data) is temporary storage, isn't intended for permanent storage, and it should be regularly cleared out (I do it at least once a day).

This is what I do (and I recommend):

1 -- Close all apps running in background.

2 -- Go into Settings, then Safari, then choose "Clear History and Website Data" and tap "Clear" when you see the popup.

3 -- Next, in Safari, choose "Advanced," then "Website Data," and at the bottom of the list of tracking data tap "Remove All Website Data" and on the popup tap "Remove."

               The data stored there can cause problems, especially if it's allowed to accumulate over a long period of time.    It's also one of the sources of the tracking and targeted ads we've seen posters discuss.    This is not where permanent login information is stored.

               In addition, it's important to backup/sync your device occasionally.    This clears out the old accumulated iPad Analytics/Diagnostic data — that data if allowed to languish over a long period of time can cause all sorts of strange glitches, just like the old Safari data can.   (The only way to remove it is with a backup/sync, and the added bonus is that it frees up space.   If you want see where this data is stored, look in "Settings," "Privacy," "Analytics," "Analytics Data.")

               I hope that's helpful, and hope everyone has a lovely afternoon/evening.🌻

               More about passwords saved for auto-fill:   When sites ask if you want to save login info for auto-fill for your iPad or iPhone, that's not saved in Safari's data and following the steps listed above will not affect this.    It's in another area, and you can actually go there and view or edit it if you want.    Occasionally a site has more stringent security and will not permit us to permanently save login info, but that's rare in my experience.

               On an iPad with newer iOS versions it's under "Settings," "Passwords & Accounts" and then "Website & App Passwords."    Under older iOS versions, for Safari, it's under "Settings," "Safari," "Passwords."   You should be asked to enter your passcode to view them.
