@StylishLady  Thanks for the suggestion.  I don't want to try another browser if I can fix it in Safari.  I really don't use another browser with this computer.  Maybe I should, but I haven't felt the need to until now.

I've been there several times.  I found that my troubles usually started when I used Firefox or Chrome (recommended by the programs I was using). We deleted all browsers except Safari and I didn't have the spinning wheel after I started using Safari exclusively on the MacBook Pro.

If it's only when loading web pages, it could be a connection issue.

Rebooting is just turning the computer off and then on again, isn't it?  That was the first thing I tried, and it didn't work.  I'm having several other problems now, so I feel sure it's because I installed Sierra. 

I only had one person respond when I posted on the Apple Community boards, and their answer didn't help.  I guess I'll have to take my laptop into the Apple store sometime soon.  I hate having to do that.

Thanks.  That's what I did.  I completely turned it off and then turned it back on, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Try using a different browser. I'd recommend google chrome.
