When you place a call on your Kindle Fire tablet, what category of minutes does it use? Are they charged to your phone? I don't have messenger on my phone.

Did not know you could even use the tablet as a phone? Very interesting indeed.

If you're using Skype, Facebook Messenger, or a similar app, all you're using is your Wi-Fi. There are no minutes being used unless the app you're using limits you to a certain number of free minutes. The only real issue is the person you're calling has to use the same app.

Have you used one and/or could you recommend a good one?

@Zhillswrote:Have you used one and/or could you recommend a good one?
I haven't used one. I almost never talk on my normal phone, so using my tablet as a phone is something I haven't needed to play around with. There are a lot of articles and YouTube videos out there talking about the options, so you can learn more there. From what I understand, whoever you're calling has to have the same app on their device, so you'll want to reach out to whoever you talk to the most to make sure you're both using the same app.

@Zhillswrote:Thanks, @gardenman. Can't believe nobody on this BB uses this feature.
Hope you are healing nicely!
I have both a landline and smartphone at home, so I don't really need a third way of calling people. I suspect that's the case with many other posters.
I'm happy to report the incision is completely healed and everything feels fine. Still another five to six weeks before I'm weight bearing again. There may be an alignment issue as the left foot is about an inch and a half to two inches too far to the left and turns out a bit. That may be in the acceptable norm after an injury like this, or it may need to be addressed, but we'll find out next Wednesday (the 28th) when I see the ortho docs again.

@Zhills - not a tech guru by any means but we use Gmail as our office email and Google Hangouts as our instant messaging application. Hangouts includes an option for video call. I am not a fan of video calls but some of the younger crowd prefer them. I was excited to discover I did not have to use the video feature but could still participate in the calls via Hangouts. Hangouts is part of the app suite for your gmail account and as @gardenman said, all you need is a wireless connection.
