PRINTER ISSUE, Canon Printer

[ Edited ]

Hi all.  I just replaced an ink cartridge on my Canon printer.  I thought at first there was something wrong with the cartridge.

I know now it is not that.  I can print some documents no problem.  Black print is just fine.  But there are some documents I can barely read at all because the print is so faint.  The documents I am printing are mostly from email.

These emails are flight tickets, hotel reservations, etc.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?  Some of these documents Inwould really like to have I. Hard copy as backup for obvious reasons.

I am using a MacBook Pro 2016.

Thanks in advance.  LM

I replaced my printer 2 was ago. I spent over $100 replacing all cartridges and still wouldn’t work. Geek Squad w/Best Buy came to the house to work on it and there was something unfixable with the black ink. Anyway I now have HP laser jet. I needed it to work because I’m printing a lot of things for my NYC trip so I hear you.

One problem was the ink was drying up since we don’t print that often. They recommended laser jet.

Re: PRINTER ISSUE, Canon Peinter

I don’t have a Canon printer but my printer has also done that before.  The printer I have has a setting that you can choose to have it go through a process where it cleans the print heads. Sometimes it works the first time I have it do it and sometimes I need to have it clean them a couple times in a row. Is your printer able to do that?

Re: PRINTER ISSUE, Canon Peinter

@Mz iMac@itsmagic@OKPrincess, great feedback.

The cartridge is brand new so that shouldn't be the issue.

Could be the drivers or the cleaning issue.  Will check those out and advise.

Any other thoughts welcome.  It only does the really light/invisible print on certain items while it does a great job on others.

Thanks for the tips.  LM

@Lilysmom It was determined it was cheaper to get a new printer than to fix what was affecting the black ink not work. I had my printer for a long time so it didn’t bother me to get a new one. Good luck and you’re welcome.

Re: PRINTER ISSUE, Canon Printer

I am having the same problem today with my black ink .I clean my printer heads about 3 times (uses alot of ink) I think it told me I neded to calibrate my cartidges....then it stopped in the middles of doing that and said it was unable to finish.....

I think mine is toast. My HP printer is over 5 yrs old....so I guess I have to go get a new one

Unless you have a lot of ink to use and can't sell it, buy a new printer.  A new printer will cost less than getting it fixed or buying new ink.

If you don't print a lot and don't needs color, get a laser printer.  Toner is different than ink and doesn't dry up.

Have you replaced both color & b&w cartridges? You know that both have new ink? Are you trying to print color documents in b&w?

When you print color pages in b&w, some colors will print like that, very light.  Try printing in b&w only and see if it still does it.

Re: PRINTER ISSUE, Canon Peinter

@Moonchilde, great timing, I was just coming to update you all.  I updated the drivers and went through a cleaning.  The issue remains.

I just rented a car and found the same issues printing off the rental details.  Parts of it are clear as a bell and parts are so faint you can hardly

read it.

It is black only printing.  I don’t think it is the printer.  I am wondering if there is something embedded in things like airplane tickets, car rentals, etc that make this a common issue.  I can put the stuff on a stick and print at a shop just to see if there is a difference.

I like to have hard copies when I travel just in case something happens to the electronics.

All comments welcome as always.  Feedback appreciated.  LM
