Hi Alice,

Windows 98 is an extremely old operating system, so a smooth transfer of applications to a current operating system would be difficult. We do have workarounds for your scenario, though! Could you contact us at sales@laplink.com so we can help get you set up?

It is not a smart thing to spend money on Laplink software for an old OS like 98.

I agree, wouldn't spend money on a system for windows 98. Rather, just get an external hard drive, or even use a CD. Put that into the existing computer and transfer all of your pictures and documents to that. Then on the new computer plug in the hard drive or CD and put all of the stuff on the new system.
