Re: Ordered a new phone

[ Edited ]

@LIG1,  I am currently on the tracfone site.  I signed into my account and selected shop plans.

Scrolled down to the box showing $125 for 365 days, with 1500 minutes, 1500 texts and 1.5 GB of data.  Click on that.

The prices for tracfones with minutes, etc. has increased a lot over the past few weeks.

In general, buying a new phone is the cheapest option. My new phone at $180 delivered (tax and shipping included) comes out to $15 a month for one year. I already had one additional year of service on my old phone, so I'm getting two years in total which comes out to $7.50 a month. And the new phone has a promise of two years of Android updates and three years of security updates.

Tracfone is one small part of Verizons' phone plan family (Tracfone, Straight Talk, Total Wireless, Simple Mobile, Safelink Wireless, Walmart Family Mobile, and probably more), along with the Verizon-labeled plans. Tracfone had been the cheapest of the lot, but they now seem to be trying to level everything out so all the "cheap" plans are more or less the same price. That means Tracfone customers end up paying more.

@gardenman Your new Moto phone sounds great.  I have a Samsung J2 I've had for a long time. I like it but some apps I'd like are not available to my phone now.  Do you think switching all my "stuff" from Samsung to Moto would be difficult.  Just asking your opinion.

I find Moto phones to be very easy to swap to. All I had to do was log in to my Google account and wait for everything to download onto the new phone.

@LIG1 - if you are on the TracFone website, go to the Refill page and choose Refill my Plan.  On the next screen, scroll down until you see add on plans.  I usually choose texts or data and put it in my cart.  Once you are in the cart, there is an option on the left to add an additional year of service.  When I did it for my husband a few months ago it was $49.  So for $49 plus whatever add on you chose, you get a year service.  If you need more minutes or data or texts that may not be your best option but you can get an additional year of service that way very easily.  Hope this helps.

@gardenman--although it doesn't really matter, I'm curious about whether or not this comes with a wall charger. The description does not mention one, but I see one in the picture.

Yeah. It came with a 20-watt generic wall charger along with the car charger. Motorola has a 68-watt "turbo-charger" you can buy separately that gives you the fastest charge, but at $60 suggested retail ($40-ish online retailers)  I'll take a pass on that and stick to the slower charger.

I used their 20-watt generic charger on the charging stand I bought, and it's working great. The stand comes without a charging block, and I had that one handy, so I used it.

For a while, everything was coming with wall chargers, and you had more than you knew what to do with. Now, pretty much nothing comes with them.
