Microsoft Extended Security Updates Windows 10

For those of you that are "about to expire" Drizella's thread from the other day; it is very easy to enroll your computer or laptop into the extended security updates for another year.  In some cases this can be for free if you backup your files to the cloud or you could use 1,000 of your Microsoft rewards points and I believe the last option was a $30 fee.

Open: Settings

Windows Update and Security - the information will be on the far right of the page on how to enroll.  If you don't see anything turn on "get the latest updates" and check back daily until it appears.

You do need to make sure your windows is up to date and you are running 22H2 version.

I've enrolled two of mine into the program with .no problems

I don't understand why it would be beneficial to keep using an older and about-to-expire version of Windows when a newer, more secure option is available to use. To me it makes more sense to use a newer device with better security, especially in this day and age.

ETA-

Technology gets old and outdated before you know it. There are valid reasons why it keeps changing, security issues are one big reason, and 'old' is usually around 5 years. Windows 11 came along to resolve the many security holes in Windows 10 and there were many.

Some computers can't be upgraded to Win 11. Computers are more expensive now so it will be hard for some to upgrade.

I bought an HP Omni Studio All in One with 27" screen in April. I had to install a Dimmer Switch App.  The screen was so bright I couldn't open my eyes to use it at night. If there was no app out there to dim the light I would have sent my computer back.

My desktop computer was 15 years old. I couldn't update to 11. It worked really good. I hate to get rid of it. It had better Specs on it then some computers they have been selling for years?

DH was going to buy a new laptop. After he saw my computer he ordered one of those a month after I bought mine. He tried to steal mine?

I see the expense as an investment in security. After all, many of us including myself have their entire 'life' on their devices. It would be a shame to have it compromised by not having a secure system. I'm willing to spend the money to protect what I have.

I know what you mean. That's why we bought new computers. I have to pay the bills.

I keep trying to tell my younger sister about her phone not being secure. She doesn't get it. I told her she cannot do banking, shopping etc on her phone since it's no longer secure? She was using an old outdated Tracfone with Android KitKat 4.4.

My sister and I bought her a new laptop and a new phone. If only she knew how to use them. Plus she clicks on stuff she should not? Can't explain anything to her.

She says she has a hacker.

I'm kinda fed-up with Microsoft.    They keep changing the TIME on my computer to "Eastern".

@Desertdi

This might help:

Disable automatic time zone: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time and turn off the toggle for "Set time zone automatically".

That's where I have it set.    But, it "changes" by itself.    It's become very annoying.     Cox AZ is my provider, so I don't think it's "them".      di

Another thing to try is this:

Disable location access for apps: Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Location and turn off "Allow apps to access your location" to prevent location services from changing your time zone.

Re: Microsoft Extended Security Updates Windows 10

@Nightowlz  I was upset that I had to go out and buy a new desktop to replace my HP that was only 6 years old and working just fine, just wouldn't do the 11 upgrade. I bought an HP Omni for under $500, but then I had to buy a new monitor because my 20 year old Dell monitor would not connect to new tower. Then grandkid had a heck of a time getting my 20 year old HP inkjet printer to work with 11. Finally have everything working, most likely just in time for Microsoft to roll out Windows 12 and tell me too bad, go buy a replacement.
