We just purchased a car with On Star.  After the trial period should we keep it; do you know of any discounts?

I have not kept OnStar after the free period.  We never used it at all.  The renewal fee was kind of high IMO.

I don't know of any discounts. But if I recall, you pay a little less if you purchase a year in advance as opposed to being charged monthly.

I love OnStar and use it regularly when driving out of town, when trying to find a new place (doctor, etc.), or especially in inclement weather when it is hard to see due to heavy fog, for instance.

And if I ever lock my keys inside the car or someone has stolen my car, OnStar can unlock the door or find where my car has been taken.

I appreciate the monthly reports that OnStar sends me, letting me know what needs to be taken care of. For instance, I had no idea that one of my tires was so low. Didn't feel like the tire was low; no problem driving the car. But it alerted me to the fact that there may be a problem (and there was....nail slowly allowing air to leak out).

My husband uses On Star when he can't get reception on his cell phone. His cabin is behind a mountain so no one gets to use their cell phones when they are there. On Star is no problem.

I haven't used the on star in my car.  I have a friend who would never be without it.

Don’t know of discounts but want to tell you that I would not be without it. It is my security blanket! I have a fear of getting lost and I know my satellite in the sky is always there. Need to contact police easily, On Star is just a button away. Need to check your engine or hear a sound, call on Star and have them check it. It is well worth the cost!

I purchased my SUV in 2013 with a trial of Onstar and I just renewed it and got a discount for paying the full year price vs monthly charge. I would not be without it, have never had to use it but I do feel safer since I can contact them if needed in an emergency on the road. I also like the monthly emails with the status of any vehicle issues, oil life status and tire pressure readings.  I think it is well worth it for me. Hope that helps

You can purchase different levels of ONSTAR.  We have it just for the phone for an emergency. Not all the aspects. For instance we can call to get a door unlocked, or if we have an accident they will call 911. But that's all.Much cheaper.
