Novice with electronics - recommendations - IPad, tablet,.... what do I need?

I am not knowledgeable --- not one bit --- about electronic devices, but I really want some kind of tablet or something of this nature.

I know there have been plenty of posts here about IPad this, tablet that, etc., etc. Most of the time I am clueless when I read them.

I would like a device that is simple --- and I mean simple - to operate --- has some help that comes with it --- and is not overly expensive.

I want something that is pretty easy to hook-up (i.e., get started) and maintain.

I enjoy the internet, shopping, e-mail, and reading. I want to learn how to do some basic things on-line that I am sure probably most of you already know how to do. I love picture taking but don't know the first thing about doing, putting them or keeping them on your device.

Can you make some good suggestions - tell me why you have listed a particular machine, what they do and how much (approximately) they cost?

I'd appreciate as simple answers as possible!!! Thanks a lot!!!
