I had to buy a new TV for my bedroom today. My TV just completely died. It isn't even that old. I ordered the new one from Best Buy. You aren't supposed to take a TV over 32" out of the box by yourself because you can crack the screen if you grab it that way. For them to set it up for me was going to be $199! I couldn't believe it. It should be here tomorrow and a friend of mine and her husband are going to come over and help me take it out of the box and set it up.
I bought a 40" Smart 4K Ultra HD TV this time. I really don't need a Smart TV because I have Tivo but there isn't much choice of anything else.

Enjoy your new TV.

I didn't know that about a single person not handling a TV. As long as I can pick it up, I'll be darn if I'd pay someone $199. to install what I can do myself. I've done several of them alone with no problem. The hardest part is attaching the stand.

Enjoy! I set up my 42' by myself.

I had help because I have a 49" TV and it's too big for me to handle alone. I've never heard you can't lift a TV over 32" alone and bet it's a ploy to convince people to pay someone $199 to do it for you.

I agree that it's a marketing ploy. I've installed 32" , 40" , 42" and 55" HDTV's by myself with no trouble. Modern TV's are very lightweight and easy to move. In many cases the packaging around the TV weighs as much as the TV.

@Kachina624 I would never have paid $199 for someone to install a TV for me. I know I can do it myself. The video said that one person shouldn't lift the TV out of the box because if you grab hold of the screen it could crack. I think it would be hard to do it yourself without doing that. I'm just glad my friends can come over this afternoon after it's delivered. I do think I'll be really glad they will be able to help me attach the stand. My TV is going into an armoire so that will make it harder, too, not being able to easily reach the back of the TV.

@glb613 It's not that you can't lift it by yourself. You're not supposed to try to take it out of the box by yourself. It said you need to reach all the way in the box and lift it by the bottom. You're not supposed to touch the screen when you lift it or it could crack. Anyway, I'm just glad my friends can help me.
The video actually wasn't trying to get you to pay them. It was just saying you should have help. I was planning on doing it myself before I watched the video. I probably would have cracked the screen doing it myself if I hadn't seen the video.

We don't have room in our bedroom for a TV that large. We have about a 26" in there and we rarely watch TV in there. My DH has set up all our TVs himself. We have 5 - isn't that ridiculous? Living room, den, kitchen and both bedrooms. We honestly watch the one in the kitchen most, but we do hear the TV from the guest room at night so our company does watch it.

You wouldn't have cracked the screen. You need to be careful what you believe.
