I will be purchasing a 2017 laptop. I am trying to decide between the MacBook and MacBook Pro.  I will be using it mainly for email, texting, web browsing and of course online shopping.  Occasionally I will have the need to write and store documents.

If money were no object, which one would you choose?

Thanks

@Flika13I don't have an answer for you, but because I, too, need a new laptop soon, I did Google and start to read some of the articles out there.

So far, the most important idea for me is that given the $1299 price of each machine, I need to also look at the Dell which sells for that same price.  Two of the artcles I already read when I asked about the Apple products also praised the Dell selling at 1299.

lots of articles comparing the 2 Apples and at the very least, they give us a good idea of what to think about before buying.  Just one example,  one writer prefers the Pro except it's half again as heavy as the other machine and he didn't like carrying it around.  That's not an issue for me, but would be some users.  But he didn't like the quality of the sound on the Macbook - that would bother me if I thought I'd ever watch a movie on it.

I bought a Macbook Air in 2012 and love it.  I also purchased the CD drive that links into it so that I could download CD's into my iTunes library.  It was a great choice.  It is so lightweight and has a real keyboard, unlike the ipads.  I din't need anything larger or more on a "pro" level.

Just go into the Apple store (if you can), talk to the expert staff, and explore the various options available.  They will guide you in the right direction.  I've never felt like they were high pressure with sales either.

I use my Macbook for the exact same purposes that you do, except I text through my phone, not computer.

Good luck @Flika13

@Flika13  I went through this process considering these two computers.  After lots of videos, research, and talking to Apple store employees several times, I went with the pro (I've owned it about a month).  I don't regret my decision....just more bang for the buck.  I bought the 13" because I was after portability,  Apple is just the best, so whatever you choose, I know you will love it!  (My sweetheart just ordered the new ipad...he was also considering the pro but wanted extreme portability.  We realized our older 15" Mac Book pro is well loved but way too heavy for travel purposes.)

I have had my MacBook Pro for about 5 years now.  Still love it.  Love Apple!!!!

(As an aside, I recently bought my iPhone 7 at an Apple store in my area.  The service was incredible from the minute I walked in the door.  I dealt with three different people for different phases of the purchase.  The lengthiest one was the trainer who spent probably close to an hour introducing me to various features on my iPhone.  And, of course, they have several free classes, should I choose to attend.  Not to mention their stellar customer service folks on the phone!  What a company!!!!)

@Flika13, my MacBook Pro is about 8 months old.  Just love it.  Talk to staff at the Apple Store.  They will be honest with their recommendations.  LM
