I didn't previously mention hard drive space, but I would think that is a given, so didn't think to mention it. A computer is just a shell, RAM, hard drive, operating system, etc. can all be replaced with something upgraded. If one couldn't do this there wouldn't be replaceable parts/ operating software all over the market. It's a huge business.
You must not know much about minimum requirements and drivers.

Anyone can do simple google searches on this topic to see that computer components can be replaced with upgraded components. We are in agreement that to upgrade a computer operating system it needs minimum requirements to be compatible with the upgrade, thus my mention of possible need to upgrade other components within. Such as RAM and hard drive to meet the minimum requirement threshold. Without either of knowing the specific specs of the OP current computer, this ongoing argument is a mute point. But as a matter of fact, the Fortune 500 company that I work for issues Dell and HP laptops to employees, and just last year our computers where upgraded from XP to windows 7. I still have the same physical computer I had, just with updated operating system. On 2/17/2014 Lynnj said: Yes, I do think an old computer can run windows 7.
