Need iphone assistance

My sons are getting me the Verizon iphone for my birthday. However, I don't want any huge cell bills. I have a T Mobile Blackberry which costs about $80/month. I know it depends on useage but could anyone ballpark what 500 minutes a month might cost? Rarely but sometimes do text. Thanks so much.
