Do to my fiddling around with buttons, etc, I can't get any background to stay. It shows when I first start up the laptop as it loads but quickly disappears.

Any ideas?

That should read "due" to my fiddling, not do.

More information, I'm running Windows 7.

When I shut down laptop I see a flash of the backround screen (flowers) then disappears.

My choice was from those choices already available on my computer, not from so strange websight.

I would pick a date in the last week or so when it was running correctly and do a "restore" from that date.

I am also running Windows 7, so this should work.

right click on an empty spot on the desktop, click personalize and see what's going on.

Thanks, I've tried clicking on preferences and checking picture for desktop many, many times but never am I successful.

Ahhh, too bad.  It sounds like you already knew what to check.  Have you Googled the exact symptoms?  I'm usually able to find a fix for what ever problem I encounter.

I just tried 'disappearing desktop picture' and got several hits.  You can probably word it more precisely and find correct possible fixes.

Thanks, yes, I've done several searches with different wording. Nothing has worked.

Funny, I was able to change sounds, I can see the background when I close down the laptop for just a flash. Then it disappears.
