Need help with a PC back-up device.

Can anyone recommend a good back-up device for a PC. My PC recently crashed and is now in the process of being fixed. Since I didn't have a back-up I want to be sure I have something on hand for when I get the PC back. I was going to get the Clickfree but after reading the reviews, people are saying it is not compatible with Windows 8. I don't have Windows 8 at this time but that could conceivably happen in the future. Any ideas for alternatives?
