Need help finding a wireless router

We have recently purchased a laptop and need to get a wireless router. I'm not computer or electronic savvy but have been told a dual band router covers a wider range and is faster. Other than that, I'm CLUELESS! Do most routers hook up the same way or are some easier to install? Any info and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
