Need a new laptop

am having big problems with my current Dell laptop. I am interested in buying a new laptop and it will not be a DELL. I have talked to the person here in town who has fixed this one several times and he recommended a Asus. He said he has one and has not had a problems. Does anyone feel the same. Any recommendations from readers would be greatly appreciated. What is the best out there--I use my laptop for e-mail, shopping and web browsing. I am not in to gaming.
