I wouldn't get her a Windows computer unless you live close and can do the maintenance for her.

A cheap window computer can be a headache. I would buy her an refurbished iPad 4 direct from Apple.

My husband bought an HP laptop last weekend on sale at Best Buy. It was $300 with the tax included. It is a nice setup.

Get a HP Chromebook. You can purchase one with free Tmobile internet service for life so you don't need to bother with finding another internet service provider. There is no contract, no credit card and no overage charge. I have one and I love love love it. Takes about 10 minutes to set up and you are ready to go. Highly recommend this.

That sounds too good to be true. Really? Tmobile won't work in our area if it is true. Darn!

You are right. I just googled it. I'd give anything to get this deal. OP, if Tmobile works in your area, this is what I'd do.

I read further....Someone posted this info. I don't know if it is true or not. Needs investigation. I'm not going to investigate it since we can't get tmobile. A poster says:

Turns out the free lifetime 4G is only available IF YOU ALSO HAVE A PAID T-MOBILE PHONE PLAN. ATT or Sprint or something and you can’t use the free 4G without changing phone carriers

Thanks for your responses. I will look into the suggestions. I was hoping that there would be a large selection of inexpensive laptops - Wishful thinking! I appreciate the feedback.

A Chromebook is a great option. HP is now also making Chromebooks and I think I read recently of another manufacturer joining the Chromebook lineup. The eleven inch Asus is now only $199 whle the other makes are a tick or two more. For most users they're a nearly perfect computer at a pretty low price.

In my earlier post I said that I'd recently heard of another manufacturer making Chromebooks, it turns out it's Toshiba who has joined the Chromebook lineup with a 13.3 inch Chromebook for $279. So you've now got Toshiba, Acer, Samsung, and HP all making Chromebooks and I suspect more companies will join the group before too long.

Well, there really are a LOT of cheap laptops. But if quality is part of the equation that limits the choices down a bit. I like to strike a balance, with quality being before price, if at all possible. But that's just me.

Hope you find the right one for you! Smiley Happy
