Need Kindle recommendations and advice

Okay, Ladies, let's start from ZERO!!! I want to get grandkids, ages 12 and 7 a Kindle for Christmas. I know NOTHING about them. I want it mostly for them to read books on, and from there on, I'm out of touch with all the technology. Once they have the Kindle, where do they get the books to put on it, and how much are they? Also, do they have a list of 'children's/ teens' books? Any info would help, as I said, I'm starting from ZERO. Thanks!!
