Hello Forum Family,😊
I am wondering if any of you purchased the HP laptop that was the TSV last month? I finally got around to setting it up yesterday, and have had nothing but issues with the cursor and touchpad. Have you had issues with yours? I changed the sensivity to the lowest level, and yet cursor jumping around continues, and the touchpad is frequently non-responsive.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions? I hate to send it back because it is the GORGEOUS sunkissed plum color and whisper quiet. Is there a setting that might help? I would rather not have to phone HP Support because that is a frustrating process!😒
THANK you in advance for any assistance you can provide!🥰

Check the Mouse options under control panel:
Start → Control Panel → Mouse → Buttons tab. Check the box labeled "Use MS Office compatible scroll only." Also, check the box below labeled "Scroll in active window only."
Attempt using an alternate/external mouse.
Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:
Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.
· 1. Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.
· 2. Click Device Manager.
· 3. Click + sign next to Mouse.
· 4. Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".
· 5. Restart your computer.

Do you have the HP Support Assistant loaded? Mine looks like a question mark at the bottom taskbar/toolbar, like this:
If you do click on it and it will bring up all the info on your computer and offers all kinds of automatic troubleshooting fixes, etc. so IF you are able to get down to it with all the jumping around you might start there.
FYI If you don't have it, you can download it by going to the HP Support Assistant website, though again only IF you can get there with the cursor jumping around distraction.
All that said, I agree with abbeydabby's post above about working with your mouse. I had a digital Logitech mouse and had scrolling and jumping problems and it was my mouse. Logitech says:
If I remember right, I switched out the battery and moved the USB receiver from the left side to be closer to the mouse (I'm right handed) and voila - all worked again. I feel for you, tech will make you pull your hair out when there's a problem. Good luck! ![]()

All that said, I agree with abbeydabby's post above about working with your mouse. I had a digital Logitech mouse and had scrolling and jumping problems and it was my mouse. Logitech says:
- Make sure the battery is fully charged. Low or dead batteries can affect mouse movement.
- Turn off your mouse or unplug the mouse from the computer and try cleaning the mouse sensor on the bottom with compressed air or a Q-tip.
- Move the mouse closer to the USB receiver (if you have a wireless mouse). If your receiver is in the back of your computer, it may help to relocate the receiver to a front port. In some cases the receiver signal gets blocked by the computer case, causing a delay.
- Keep other electrical wireless devices away from the USB receiver to avoid interferences.
- Unpair/repair or disconnect/reconnect hardware (if you have a wireless mouse)
- Upgrade the firmware for your device if one is available.
- Windows only — check if there are any Windows updates running in the background that may cause the delay.
- Mac only — check if there are any background updates that may cause the delay.
- Try your device on a different computer.
If I remember right, I switched out the battery and moved the USB receiver from the left side to be closer to the mouse (I'm right handed) and voila - all worked again. I feel for you, tech will make you pull your hair out when there's a problem. Good luck!
@Happy2BHere THANK you SO much for these suggestions! A mouse came with it, but I have not used it yet!😁 My battery is built in! Hopefully I will be able to figure this out!🥰
THANK again for the help!🤗

First the obvious: did you try the good ole shutting down/restarting fix?
Are there any available updates? Do you have the latest version of the apps?
If none of these work, I would personally contact HP for exchange/warranty.
I bought a laptop at Target lasat year. I didn't set up the laptop until a few months after the purchase. After everything was setup/updated, I noticed immediately the "e" key would not always register. I decided not to contact the company for the fix under warranty. I just didn't want to go through the hassle and thought it as not a biggie.
That "e" key not always registering is a nuisance. It's only when typing my passwords that has an "e" that I contemplate contacting the company before the warranty expires... but I doubt I will. LOL

Isn't it GREAT to know there are people here who are SO proficient when it comes to technology? Wow.
Sometimes I read the solutions and just know I'd have never come to that conclusion and solution ... even if I worked on it for a whole year!
Thanks to everyone ........ ![]()

@Runner26 Welcome!🥰 I did the normal troubleshooting, updating, ran hardware diagnostics, checked the operating system, and optimized performance via the Support Assistant but nothing was found.🤔 I am strongly considering returning it if I cannot find a solution!
THANK you SO much for offering your suggestions!🤗
