I'm a senior citizen. I've had a FITBIT for years to track my steps and I loved it.
For some unknown reason, I decided to buy an Apple Watch. What was I thinking?????
I have an iphone and an ipad so I'm fairly familiar with Apple products.
After reading the entire 398 page manual and watching several YOUTUBE videos, I finally was able to set up my watch.
Well guess what - my steps do not show on the face of the watch.
I had to download a 3rd party app in order to get the steps on the FACE of the watch. Even then, in order to keep the steps current, I have to go into the Activity app on the watch, click on it and then, finally, the current number of steps will appear on the watch face.
WHEW!
I'm keeping the watch because I'm having fun changing the face and colors but I don't really need a phone on my wrist.
I have no idea why Apple neglected an app to be able to put steps on the face of the watch.
I did call Apple and voice my complaint.

Wow...I'm most amazed you "read the entire 398 page instruction manual!!" Amazed their instruction manual for it is that long, also.
That's enough to tell me it's not for me!! I barely will read a two page instruction manual for a toaster!
I have only ever owned a FitBit and the latest I've had the past 2 years is the Charge 5 ...my favorite one yet. I think they have a Charge 6 now.
A tracker is just that for me...and a watch.
I never had the desire for a "phone on my wrist" as you say...I hardly like having my regular smart phone. (Samsung Galaxy)...though I love it for pictures and directions...ie. when I actually need it. The texting thing drives me a bit crazy and I'm not attached to constantly being contacted at all moments of my life, except for an emergency.
I do own an Ipad and love it, so I've nothing against Apple.
All that said....after all that I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for letting me know what I'm missing! Have none of those electronics and barely use my "stupid" flip phone!

Both my DH and I have an Apple watch. I didn't read any manual. I just followed the instructions that came up on my iPhone and Apple watch in order to set it up. It was pretty self explanatory as I followed each step. All I have to do is click on Activity to see how many steps I have taken. I love my Apple watch. It doesn't bother me that the number of steps aren't on the face of the watch.

I'm a senior too and have several Apple products and have yet to read a manual. To me everything is self explanatory. I have an Apple Watch and I don't care if it doesn't have my steps on the front. I can check my activity and find it there if I want.

To me, the Apple Watch has been the easiest thing I've encountered in electronics. I set it from my IPhone with the app and haven't had a problem.
This watch does so much for me! I love it! Hate the phone, love the watch! A tap to see steps wouldn't keep me from loving it.

I'm 72 and have an iwatch which counts my steps, my heart beats, my exercises, and a timer. That's what I chose. I went on the phone and on the watch app I chose those things among many to choose. You should go to the Apple Store if you don't know how to to that.

@kaydee50 Me, too! I already know it's a ½ mile to the mailbox, and I keep track of my exercise by "time" rather than steps. Ya know, a half-hour romp thru Walmart... di
