Re: NEXT HP LAPTOP TSV?

[ Edited ]

I just brought for my daughter a 14 inch computer its called the steam it is a budget computer from HP and I think its  newer  then the Envy. It is a very nice computer for the cost [I paid 199 on sale] And my daughter is very excited about it. It comes in Purple , white or Aqua blue. QVC sells it to with a sleeve case and a mouse for 299. I do not know what the new HP laptop TSV will be?

As for updates, of course, it's going to have in it whatever was current at the time of the build.  I've always had updates to install in any new computer.  But that's the easy stuff.  Smiley Happy

It's going to have Windows10.   There will probably be updates to install, though.  Personally, I don't like Win10 because of the amount of control they take away from the user.  That is just irksome for me because, if I have purchased the license for this given machine, I think that I should be able to continue having more control, short of doing anything to hurt the OS of course.   Every time there is an update I cringe, wondering what program it is going to corrupt (or kill) next.  Smiley Sad

Mine have all had ethernet ports, although I never use them, and DVD drive also.  But I've been hearing lately that DVD drives aren't in laptops as much as they used to be.  I was surprised by that.   All of mine have had them and I use them, mostly for installing programs that I have on hand.

@chickenbutt

Most people store data on the cloud today. You can buy a USB plug in DVD drive.

I'm sure having no control over updates bothers a lot of people but, the spreading of malware by people with infected computers because they don't update is a real problem.  Since I switched to Apple, I'm not as vunerable as I was.  But, I've had programs fail to run after doing an OS upgrade so it's not just Microsoft.

I use the ethernet port on my iMac because it's a much faster connection.  I doubt I would use it on a notebook computer.  I don't have a built in DVD drive on either computer so, I bought an external drive and use it occationally.  I don't store much in the cloud by my choice so, I do like to make photo DVDs as a way to back up my pictures.

The point I'm trying to make, everyone is different and there is no one configuration of a computer that is best.  People need to evaluate how they use their device then pick a computer that best fits their needs.  As all of us regular posters have said for decades, you can get a much better deal buying from a local electronics store or the manufacturer.  Unfortunately, QVC doesn't have the best deals.

You may want to look at an HP Envy at the company site. You can find reviews at Notebookcheck.net, and YouTube.

@Nuttmeg

Is "Envy" supposed to be the latest model?     Do you have any idea what came before that?

Just wondering .....   Has anyone had any experiences with "refurbished" laptops?   I'm leaning towards a brand new whatever I get, but don't want to rule anything out just yet.

@Tinkrbl44, just my 2 cents, but I would rather buy something new than refurbished. My father (who has passed) never bought a used car, always bought new. He never wanted to buy someone else's headache.

@Jordan2

Well, cars can be in an accident or whatever, but I understand your point.   Just wondering if anyone does this.     I also prefer new.
