@gardenman @Most people with a 4K TV are not watching things in 4K. To do so requires high internet speeds. It requires you are not connected to a satellite set top box, such as DirecTV. It requires you are streaming a 4K movie or show to your device. Most of the time, even though a person owns a 4K TV, they are watching it in 180P.

If you pay for a 4K program, have very high speed internet, and have a good 4K TV, like a Sony  Bravia then you will see what 4K is all about. I remember ordering a 4K movie on my Sony and expecting it to look incredible. Then I found out that at that time I did not have a high enough internet speed to really see the movie in 4K.

Number of devicesUse CasesRecommended Download Speed
1-2Web surfing, email, social networking, moderate videoUp to 25 Mbps
3-5Online multiplayer gaming, 4K streaming50 - 100 Mbps
More than 5All of the above plus sharing large files and live streaming video.150 to 200 Mbps

There's 4K and there's 4K. Every 4K set will upscale lesser images into a 4K image to fit the screen. Comcast also sent out 4K images through their digital cable boxes when I was a Comcast subscriber. If you've got a 4K set and you're seeing a full-screen image, you're technically watching a 4K image.  Now in most cases, it's an upscaled 4K image and not a pure one unless you're streaming or your cable/satellite provider gives you a 4K signal, but it's a 4K image.

@gardenman @Isn't this what I was just saying? You expressed it better though.

Can I buy a smart tv and not have to have the internet? I have an old router and tried to set up a new one but it would not connect. I dont care about streaming content so is there a tv out there that is a dumb tv? My Sony Bravia died on me after 15 years. Best tv I ever had.

A smart TV will work w/o the internet.

Once you decide what you want I would see if it could be purchased at Costco. I have two TV's purchased from them and they have worked just great.

I would not under any circumstances purchase a TV from QVC or HSN because they are so overpriced in my opinion.
