😬 My Sunday Boo-Boo 🥺

Long post........

Sitting on my ottoman looking for something inside my entertainmet center storage nook & at the same time trying to keep "Killa" from going inside.  TV was on.  I kept hearing beeps Killa kept looking at me every time he heard the beeps.  Thought the beeps were coming from the TV - movie & commercials.  Killa does not watch tv.  He like music.  Beeps went on for about 30 minutes at different times.

I sneezed & the tv shuts off & Killa ran into his room.  Cable box still on.  Looking around for the remote.  Could not see it.  I got up.  Low & behold, I was sitting on the cable & FS remote.  Both were face down touching each other, their backs staring up at me.

Used cable remote to turn tv back on.  It kept coming on & shutting off.  Same with FS (connected to my DOT) via voice commands & power button.  Then I noticed that the cable box stayed on & would not shut down via cable remote.  Had to shut it off manually.

Once the tv & cable box was on, every button I used on the cable remote shut off the tv! icon_exclaim.gif

I tried re-pairing the cable remote to the tv inbetween of the tv shutting off.....didn't work.

I could not do the key reset either because of the tv shutting off every time I pressed a button, any button.

I could not get to the tv troubleshooting guide-key reset section. icon_exclaim.gif

Turned everything off for 15 minutes.  Turned the cable box on manually.  Turned tv on using the "tv remote."  Sucess!!!!  Tried the previously mentioned troubleshooting.  Soon as I pressed the cable remote buttons (any button), tv shut off, cable box stayed on.

Called Verizon.  Since I had already tried troubleshooting suggestions the agent mentioned, he said, "You need a new remote.  Will mail one today.  Remote will cost $14.99what-smiley-emoticon.gif  "If you think I am going to pay for something I originally got for FREE you got another thing coming.  I'll just grab a couple of remotes off of the UNLOCKED trucks that I see parked at the strip malls.  Let me speak to your supv., manager and/or director.  Whichever one is available NOW." icon_exclaim.gif

I then get the spiel, "From reviewing your records, I see you are a valuable customer, yada, yada, yada.  Therefore, the remote will be FREE along w/s&h.  You will get the remote 3-4 business days."

"Would you like to take a phone survey regarding our conversation?

"NOPE!  Just send me an email confirmation for my FREE remote."

Here it is!  Got this a.m.

Before going to bed, I unplugged from the wall socket the tv & the cable box.

This morning I plugged everything back in.  Guess what???? whistling.gif

I still had to reset the remote to the tv.  The FS needed no troubleshooting.  Everything worked perfectly.

And in case you're wondering, no I am not notifying Verizon to cancel order.

So the moral of this story/post is to never ever place "remotes" in places where folks sit.  Always place them buttons up!  Or else your remote(s) will suffer from BSS (Butt Shifting Syndrome). Smiley Tongue

OMG!!  First let me say that I'm sorry you had to go through all the frustration and angst.... but let me also say that your rendition of what happened is very funny....  Again, sorry it was at  your expense...... but thanks for the laugh!  Woman LOL

And my remotes are now in isolation, and will never be upside down or sat upon thanks to your warning.

Hahaha. I keep sitting on my Roku remote and turning on Netflix.

@Mz iMac

Glad you got it working again.

.....and thanks for the tip.

When I fall asleep at night I usually put the remote under my covers but sometimes i do roll on it.

Not a good thing. I'm not gonna put it there anymore!

What I cannot stand is my ,"Smart TV"

It seems to think it knows everything.

It sometimes takes me 5 or 6 (sometimes more) times to turn it on !

......and god forbid if I accidently press the wrong chanel number,I wind up somewhere I cannot get out of easily asking me what would I like to do?

Give me back my old "dumb tv"  we got along so good together................sigh

For future reference I hope OP, and thread readers, remember that many electronic glitches will self resolve if UNPLUGGED for a few minutes, at least 5-10 minutes for many.

Very funny relating of the incident and glad it is resolved.  Even "just" 3 to 4 business days being without a working remote would get old fast.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Re: 😬 My Sunday Boo-Boo 🥺

@January121  Cable remotes comes w/paperwork with a list of codes for all the manufactures/models of TVs.  Detailed instructions on how to "pair" remote w/your specific model tv.

Buttons to push, some at the same time, red lights that blink 2xs and/or 3xs, then you have to remember your tv model code.

I always print out the instructions in large print & go from there.  Easy peasy to follow.

Did you save your remote paperwork?  If not, you can get it from your cable company's website - troubleshooting section.  Or call them for hands on instructions on the phone.

Matter of fact, FIOS remotes has the instructions right on the back!  Mine had worn off.

Re: 😬 My Sunday Boo-Boo 🥺

@Marp   I was so frustrated, I had forgotten about unplugging from wall until I was getting ready for bed.  Apparently the troubleshooting agent did too. If keeping the box & tv unplugged overnight didnot work, I was going throw my remote out the window.

Good thing I have a 2nd tv in the bedroom w/a working remote.
