Moving files from one computer to another

I am very computer challenged. I finally did get myself a new computer and there are certain files from my old computer that I would like to put on the new one...such as a couple documents and my address b00k. Do I have to buy softwear to do so or is there another way to do this? Any help that anyone gives me will be greatly appreciated.
