It was so slow this morning the curser wouldn't move smoothly. So, I tried to restart it and it would not load completely and get to the desktop. I ran the first aid utility and nothing was found. I reinstalled the operating system and it stil would completely load. I ran the short verion of the hardware test and it found nothing so I'm currently doing an extended hardware test. If it still won't start, I'm going to take it into the repair shop this afternoon and find out what's wrong.

Oh that's not good. I wish I had some good advice but I don't. Let us know what they say! Is your internet connection, router is goo shape?

I ran a hardware test and nothing was found. I'm at a loss as to what's wrong. Once it stops raining, I'm talking it into the repair shop. I hate having computer problems. Good thing I did a back up recently.

@glb613 (Dumb question, since I know you're highly skilled in iMacs). Have you called Apple Customer Service? I've always found them very helpful, even when I thought I no longer had C/S coverage from them. (Just a thought.)

I wish you good luck in resolving your problem. MAC's are usually trouble free.

@glb613 You are so far above me tech wise... I wanted to get a Mac and am now worried....if you are having issues then I would be totally lost.... I was sure you bought a brand new Mac...
You are highly respected here. Your word is gold to me.

What year is the iMac? Just curious.

Udate: It's in the shop. The tech got it to booted like normal when he used their network hard drive. It wouldn't boot from its own hard drive so, I'm having them run a complete diagnostics and format/reinstall the operating system. I'm having them install Sierra instead of High Seirra. I have a game (Clue) and a portable scanner that won't work with High Seirra. I'm thinking of restoring my Macbook to Seirra but will wait until my iMac is out of the shop.
My iMac is 5 years old and has been a work horse for me. I won't let this problem stop me from buying another iMac. I ran diagnostic tests at home and it showed everything is fine. The same thing happened at the shop. The repair shop can run a more intensive diagnostic testing the the ones included in the operating system. I think it's a corrupted operating system and if it is, I have no idea how it happened.
