Malware protection?

I have been purchasing Malwarebytes for protection on my laptop for a few years. Am I wasting my money? Do I need it and/or is there something better?

When I bought my Macbook Pro 10 years ago it had Malware on it as well as great protection from Apple. The malware expired after 10 years. I now renew it every year and feel very pleased with it. I don't use other tech "gadgets" which can be covered by Malware. I have the basic coverage for my laptop. The Apple man who replaced my laptop battery recommended Malware. I know there are many other companies who have similar coverage. Its "peace of mind " for me.

Always had Macs they are not prone to getting virsues I have never has Malware protection

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

I have a desktop with Win11 and all I use is Windows Defender which comes with Win11 so there's no extra expense for protection.

@Marybella I used to use the basic, then free, edition of Malware Bytes for Windows and found it useful. I didn't care for the pay, advanced version, so deleted it before the free trial was over. If I still used Windows and if they still offer the free version of Malware Bytes, I'd probably opt for it, but in fairness, I don't know if Windows Defender is better than it used to be and more comprehensive. When I was using Windows my IT guy didn't think Defender was adequate and had me install Malware Bytes.

That's confusing because Apple products don't need virus or malware protection. My husband worked for Apple for several years and that's the standard.

The only exceptions would be if you download things like movies from third party sites or torrents. Or if you share the computer with others who may do extensive gaming.

However, if you feel better by having it, there's no harm in it.
