MacBook Advice

My 4 1/2 yr old 13" MacBook is running slow. Is there anything I can do to fix this. I really don't want to buy a new computer tempting as it is. Are there any programs or downloads that can help with this problem? I have plenty of space on my hard drive so that's not the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also I am still running Tiger. Would upgrading to Snow Leopard help or hurt or even make any difference?
