I have used a Mac and Mac book for years, on a whim I bought and I Pad and not sure I like it.
What are the benefits of the I pad, the pages are not full size on the screen and after years of using a Mac Book, the transition is a little odd.
The I pad does have cellular which is good but do I really need both

I have a desktop and two MacBook Pros. I have an older iPad that is sitting collecting dust. I never did enjoy using it. Give me my MacBook Pros!!!

@I am still oxox, personally I love my iPad. I have a Mac Mini, which is a desktop computer that I use very rarely, maybe twice a month. I'm on my iPad all of the time. It's easy to move around the house, fast to start, easy to take on vacation, or even on errands. I can pay bills, deposit a check, and do basically everything on it that I can do on a laptop or desktop. Sometimes, I don't like the layout of an app, so I just go on their website through Safari. I don't use a keyboard that much, but it's easy enough to take on and off if I need it. Laptops are bulky, in my opinion and I find it uncomfortable to hold in my lap. I find that I really didn't need cellular, if I didn't want to use the WiFi where I was at, I just used my phone as a hotspot. If I had to choose, I would pick my iPad over the desktop or laptop.

There is a thread further down that maybe helpful, MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air.
Tech wise an IPad Pro and a MacBook Pro are equal products. They have the same processing power.
Apple is changing the processor in the MacBook Pro in 15-18 months. I would not buy a MacBook Air or Pro that Apple has lost interest.
Apple is using an older Intel processor in most of the MacBook Pros except the most expensive products.
Apple may decide not to support these products after Apple Care.
I have used Samsung tablets for 5 years. I use a tablet for most tasks, and my Note 10 phone can handle the remainder. I do not use a computer as much.

What are the benefits of the iPad? They're lighter than a laptop, more portable, you can use them as you wander around where a laptop more or less needs to be sitting on something. (Though I have seen people holding open laptops with one hand as they walk through a house or business.)
Which you like best is completely up to you. There is generally a bias towards that which you're most familiar with though, so it would be wise to give the iPad a bit of time before making a decision as to whether you like it or not. If you use it exclusively for a few days/weeks you may find you like it as much, and maybe even more than the Macbook.
I use my 10" Fire Tablet more than any of my other devices simply because it's fast and easy to use.

I love my IPad mini to read on and play solitaire and check stocks, etc.
But for 90 percent of what I do it is a MacAir laptop and I would not be without it. Can't say a bad thing about it. I have little use for an IPad Pro which I have or any IPad. Except the mini.

I have both too and they are truly very different. I actually had the large 12.9 inch iPad Pro first for a few years and then got the Mac Air. I was terribly disappointed.
What I discovered very few of the gazillion Apple apps are available on the Mac Air. I also discovered they use two completely different operating systems.
I have had to work around every app and simply use the website.
For example I can't load the QVC app on my Mac air, I just had to bookmark the regular QVC website instead. Even though I have a Mac Air that is less than six months old, I use it only for business things that I probably could figure out how to put on my iPad. i.e. Quicken. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the iPad every time.

I love my MacBook and I'm getting used to the iPad.

I had two iPads in the early days and got rid of both of them. I bought a MacBook Air in 2013. I never did like it all that much. It would do weird things like I'd be typing and the curser would jump up to another line. Or the screen would move left or right on it's own . Or the page would lock and I'd have to shut it off and restart it. It was one annoying thing after another. So, after years of frustration I gave it to my great niece and bought another iPad with the Smart Keyboard. I am much happier with it.
I think over time as you get used to the iPad, you'll like it. I like the ease of using it, the lightness and it just does everything I need it to do without the hassles. It's a pleasure tool for me, not a work tool.
