I keep getting a Upgrade to macOS Monterey banner on the upper right hand corner of my screen. My Air is 2015 and yes it does need a boost. Is this legit? It looks to be since it is NOT an email. I was thinking of just getting a new computer...

@bargainsgirl I upgraded to Monterey so yes it is legit. You might upgrade before you buy a new computer and see how you like it and if it still fits your needs. You can always buy new. I have had no issues. It's a new operating system

If you have NOT upgraded your OS since 2015, you will need to check ALL of your 3rd party apps to make sure they will work w/the current OS (Monterey) PRIOR to upgrading.
If your 3rd party apps are NOT compatible, you will need to update them.
It looks to be since it is NOT an email.
Apple will never send you an "email" for upgrades & updates. Software Update will send you a "notification" or you can check it yourself.

My MacBook Pro is from the same year. However, I read an article that said Monterey didn't work with well with older models. Some computers that are older, even newer ones, had to be bricked because Monterey shut down their system. I have not upgraded mine yet....just in case.

@Effie54 I have a mid-2015 Macbook Pro and have Monterey 12.2.1. No issues.

That's great news.....when I get brave, I will download it. After reading an article in the Apple news, where they said they completely shut down some of the older MacBook airs, I didn't take the chance. I'm glad you had good luck.
