My AT&T landline was out for about a month and a half! It too weeks to get an order to have my line checked because I had to hold so long and when a recording said that instead of waiting, let them call me back. They did not. I asked my husband to go to the AT&T phone store to request service and they told him they only deal with cell phones. I was shocked. Did some research and found out that companies don't care about landline service. I don't really like to be carrying a cell phone around the house with me.

Why do you need to carry a cell phone around the house? I carry mine in a pocket so it's handy. You can always place it exactly where your landline sits and use it just like you use your landline. Some of the excuses I read here for not having a cell phone (I don't want to be tethered to my phone, etc.) are the behavior of the owner and not a requirement. BTW, you might be surprised how many people I treated over the years who fell rushiing to answer the phone. How you use your cell phone is up to you. I want mine with me in case there is an emergency and I need help. How you use it is your decisioin.

I had my landline with AT&T for years.....I got a lot of spam calls on my landline but never on my Tracfone cell phone. I kept my landline because if a power outage occurred and I couldnt charge my cell phone I could still make and receive calls using my landline and an old phone.
Then I started having bad static on line, I called AT&T and was told they no longer repair copper wiring, it was outdated and I would have to call an electrician and probably someone to repair the dry wall as well. I wasnt going to go through that expense so I canceled my landline---Ive never been happier--no more spam or robo calls. I bought an additional Tracfone for emergencies!

@gadgetgal613, who always has pockets? Not me. My landline has the main phone and three extensions. Upstairs and downstairs availability. Neither hubby or I are good at running up and downstairs to keep up with a cell phone. Hard enough to remember to charge it at night and if I go out, remember to put it in my purse but I know that's the one part that's necessary to remember. I guess it's all about what you're used to. In my mind cell phones are for emergency use when away from home. I had no idea landphones we're almost obsolete til last month. Sad really.

Keep up or get left behind. Cell phones are NOT just for emergencies. I can't believe how many people think that way.

We got rid of our land lines numerous years ago. Most of the calls we got on the land line were either spam calls, wrong numbers, or organizations asking for money.
To be honest, it was a bit scary at first. I would occassionaly forget my cell phone at work. And when I did that after getting rid of the land line, then I could be home alone with no way to contact anyone quickly. But I don't miss it now and I certainly do not miss the extra monthly bill.

We have a landline, and with 5 cordless phones. I know our home is wired with copper, because copper wire is what I made for close to 30 years. Might even have made the ones running into our home, same exact wire I made.
And I worked for Western Electric, which sadly was forced to break up, by 1 Judge named Greene. It then became AT&T, much to my chagrin. Cost me my higher paying job, and I ended up retiring after 33 years at 2 pay grades lower than when I was hired.
I own a cell phone, and like you, I bought it for emergency use only. My wife is the only person that knows that number, and that will never change.
Listing the many negatives of cell phones would be a long list from me, so I will just give my primary negative.
How many innocent people have been seriously injured, or died because of a brainless driver, that had a call/text that was more important to them, than focusing 100% on driving? Probably at least in the 6 figures since they became more than an emergency contact device.
The landline is not obsolete, and I doubt will ever be, in this century. People have choices, and I personally don't care what they use to communicate with in their homes. Why they care what we choose? Your guess is as good as mine!

I believe how many think that way! I have been into electronics, of all types since the 1950's era of technology. Do I understand the new technology? Well, I have built my own computers if that helps. And am also very familiar with most Hardware and Software written for computers.
Now you saying "keep up or get left behind"! That is obviously a general term you like to use, and/or think. There are those of us that choose how and what we use to communicate, but that does not mean we are left behind.
Many like to use general terms and appear to make them applicable to everyone that makes different choices on how they choose to use telephones, and the type they choose to use.
If there is something about technology you would like to discuss.
