I've had that happen before.  It was more than likely a manifestation of the craptacular, wonky, network I have with ATT Uverse now.    I'm so over ATT!

Anyway, glad that worked.  A lot of times that is the thing that will knock things back to normal.  Same with the router, as you've already had to learn.  Smiley Happy

@hckynut..thanks.  I understand what you are saying I just need to figure out how to do it.  I'd love to cut down on the cable bill.

I do not have a smart tv but my tv does have two HDMI channels.

I do do not have cable tv. I paid about $35 for a Roku stick & that is plugged into my tv. The Roku settings are connected to my wi-fi network - streaming works through my Internet connection, not cable tv. I have Amazon Prime and most of what I watch are tv shows and movies I can watch for free through Amazon Video.

If you plan to do much streaming check with your Internet provider to make sure you have the right plan. I ended up having to upgrade my Internet.

My tv is small, 26 inches - got it to fit in the hole in my entertainment center. A larger tv is on my wish list now. I was thinking I would get a smart tv but this thread makes me think it might be smarter not to. But a larger tv is in my future.

There is not a big price difference between a Smart TV, and a regular LED set. Please check for the features.

Your HDMI "channels" are connectors.

My reason for thinking about not getting a smart tv is not because the regular ones are less expensive to buy.

As mentioned in other posts, if something goes wrong it is less expensive to replace a single item, like a Roku, than to replace a Smart TV on which the Roku feature has gone bad/outdated, etc. - This is the same reason I never bought one of those TVs that came with a built-in DVD player.

Dumb TV sets with a built-in DVD player are much different that a smart TV set.  A DVD player built-in has  mechanical moving parts. Most Smart TV sets work electronically and there is a huge difference.  Not many major brand tv manufacturers make models with "built-in" anything mechanically dependant to function.

Oh @chickenbutt my dear friend and I say this as gently as possible but I would not give up on AT&T as I just switched over from AT&T to Comcast today and it has been a complete nightmare!

I only transitioned over the tv/internet portion of the deal and yet he disconnected my AT&T phone service (this while I am trying to find a job and a recruiter is actively working with me) and when I finally was able to contact Comcast as the internet has been spotty they told me to contact AT&T to restore said service!   Hey thanks for that and clearly my voyage to try and save more money totally went adrift . . . . Smiley Sad

After putting my heart back into my chest I have decided what is done is done and no matter who you deal with it probably going to be a problem so whomever charges me the least amount of money wins going forward.

I have been resisting giving up my home phone but since Comcast was kind enough to disconnect it and have the nerve to tell me that I need to contact AT&T tomorrow I will be switching my home phone number over to my cell phone as clearly based on experience I don't need both.

Sigh.  And while I am at it, boo on all of them!

Hey Chloe's Mom!  Ruh roh - too late.

My cable co isn't Comcast, though.  I have Charter and they are coming to my house next Wednesday to change over my internet and landline.  I already have the tv service with Charter and it's pretty good.

I tried to check around with others who also have Charter internet and such, and they got good marks.

I don't really think it can get too much worse than this craptacular ATT Uverse has been for both internet and landline here!   Plus, the real gut punch is that in a couple of months the price is going to go up some $40.  It's barely (not really) worth what I'm paying now.

Of course, being somebody who lives by Murphy's Law, I worry about more problems but I feel pretty decent about it.  I really AM over att!!

I hope Comcast gets you completely straightened out.

My biggest worry, with my changeover, is that I can move some emails from the old email address to the new one, THEN cancel ATT and everything is complete.  I'm actually having to pay for the service call from Charter but it's even worth that, plus a small fee for leaving ATT early because I'm on some kind of contract that I didn't know I was one.  ugh!

I guess we'll see...

@chickenbutt  Do you by any chance have Amazon Prime?  I should be able to watch it through the Bolt, but it's not on Amazon's page of approved devices.  I've registered my Premiere but can't figure out how to register the Bolt.  I was hoping that you could help me.  I started a thread on this but thought I'd ask you here.

Edited to say:  I figured it out.  You register the Tivo Bolt on a different page than where you register the Premiere.

A Smart TV simply links with your wi-fi.  There are no extra parts.

Hey Nick!  You sure are getting great at figuring stuff out!  Smiley Happy  I love that.

I do have Prime and can't remember if I have paired up the Bolt yet or not.  I know I did pair to Netflix.

I notice a few things are in different places.   It took me a bit to find that 'System Information' is under the 'Help' button.  I tend to just go through everything and end up finding some stuff by accident.

Have you found the Bolt to be eons faster than the Premiere was, for streaming?  I'm amazed at that because, before, I mostly used my Roku3 for streaming.

ETA - Oh, I just checked.  I guess I did pair the new box up to Prime.  D'oh!  Sometimes I wonder how I find my way around my own house. hehe
