LCD Panel on Sony TV Going Bad - Question Please

You all are so knowedgable, that I wanted to ask your opinion. When I turn on my tv, the right side has a ghost image for about 2 minutes then it just goes away and looks perfect again. I called a repairman, who was very short and brisk with me on the phone as if he couldn't be bothered. He said it was the LCD panel going bad and nothing could be done. Does this sound right to you? Thanks in advance for your help.
