The business version of Outlook has a message recall feature, but the recipient has the option to acknowledge that the message can be recalled.

NYC Susan ... if you're not available to answer the phone, how are you available to read the emails? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I can relate to NYC Susan's situation. In my previous workplace we couldn't have any distractions, not even a vibrating phone. If a person can't have distractions or just doesn't want to be bothered during the work day, all they have to do is check their emails at the end of the day.

Yes. Or sporadically throughout the day.

Thank you! I don't know why people are having a hard time understanding. Where I work, we can sometimes quickly reply to emails, but can't answer phone calls or get into phone conversations when we're in the middle of certain types of meetings or when we're on set.

I was simply responding to the poster who said that it's easier to just pick up the phone and call. I've never worked anywhere, honestly, where that was the case, including jobs I've had that were not in the entertainment business.

And if someone is giving me specific information or instructions, I'm happier having it in writing, so I prefer emails as do most of my colleagues. I actually spoke to someone earlier this evening, and I started to give him a phone number. He cut me off, and said, "Please email it." And I totally understood!

Re: Knowing if the recipient of your e-mail has read it.

Before I retired, they had that option at our email at work. At home, if it's urgent, after I email the person I call them/leave a voicemail. Otherwise it's not an issue for me.
