I have had my paperwhite since 2015 and love it!  I had all these questions too.  I ended up getting the one with the least memory and I allowed the ads.  You just sweep through one ad when you turn on the kindle.  I don't even notice it anymore.  I also average 2 books a week, and have not run out of space yet.
