I bought the TSV. It definitely has ads, but since you have to unlock the screen anyway and that's the only place the ads are, those ads are no big deal. I would npt pay even $20 wxtra to avoid them. The resolution is also not a big deal - and I have definite sight problems.
The main difference is really the camera capability - you can Skype, but you don't have a forward facing camera like on the higher priced Kindle (HDX), Apple Air, etc. If taking pictures is important to you, pay the money for that feature although if the tablet is not lighter, I still wouldn't be interested. The weight is fine for most tasks, but I wouldn't like to hold it steady for pictures.
I rarely take pictures and then I just use my phone. The HD works well for me for books, papers, movies, etc.

I think the only major difference is the screen resolution. This was discussed back in December when it first came on.
The black Friday one had special offers on it. If you look at the info online, it is mentioned. They don't push that too hard on air. People said they are just on the locked screen, they don't interrupt your reading/browsing or anything.
I had just bought my Kindle Fire HD about a week before it was the TSV, and I didn't feel like resetting and deleting everything and shipping it back.
Had I known it was coming to QVC, I would have bought that one. The screen resolution isn't a deal breaker for me. I'm not doing gaming on it and while I did do a trial run with Amazon Prime and watched a couple of tv shows on it, I dont' really plan on doing that as a rule.
Enjoy!
Yes....the Kindle Fire HDX is a different animal and isn't offered on the Q -- they only sell the older models from 2102.
Don't be fooled by the Q's TSVs!!! These shows are hard-sell, infomercial-like, hour-long diatribes about these products (whether it be IPads, Mini Ipads, Kindles, etc) ignoring the nut & blts facts for comparisons to current products; they push how much the items are "wonderful", "easy to use", etc. but they never say that 'it's the newest/latest'!!! Because it's not!
Confused presentations, BUT if you go to Amazon and type in the kindle they have side-by-side comparisons of their items . Good Luck!
BTW, Many reviewers have had problems w/ 'Amazon's tech support'-- saying that they don't recognize Q's purchases (totally baffling to me, but what can you do?) The HDX has a MAYDAY button which I'll probably be using since DH got mine through them.

I would NOT buy that old model Kindle at that price. (I'd buy one if it were $50.
) The new Kindle HDX versions are featherweight and their resolution is super. That weight issue is very important. My next tablet will be a Google Nexus, anyway....Right now, I have Barnes and Noble Nook and I like it very much, it's heavy, but the resolution is better than most tablets and it was VERY inexpensive because they are not selling well. Also, you can use Google!!

this deal works form me since I'm not interested in the "mayday button" .......... never had a problem knowing how to use the KindleFire right out of the box. Not interested in the latest and greatest. The ONLY thing that was important to me was the 8.9" with 4g at a reasonable price and believe it or not, the Q was the best price for what I was looking for!!

I agree.
In fact, the reason I did buy it is because it seems to be phasing out on Amazon and I wanted to get one before they were all gone and replaced with the new and improved. Since this was a better price, I got it here instead of directly throught Amazon.

I realize it is not the HDX I don't need the Mayday thing because this comes w/ the Premier tech thing anyway. I did do a side by side comparison and Amazon offers this same one still, and it is $369 / 384
ETA to add actual prices. HDX goes to $500 + range. $249 works for me and what I need.

Just so we're all on the same page, because I think we're not.
The QVC TSV is/was the Kindle Fire HD. This Kindle Fire HD is an older version, from like 2012, of the Kindle Fire HD. It has nothing to do with the Kindle Fire HDX. Amazon has a newer version of the Kindle Fire HD that has a higher screen resolution and maybe a few other technical tweeks that I don't care about or know enough to notice.
I just feel like every time someone says it's not the newest Kindle Fire HD everyone is thinking we're talking about the HDX. Amazon is still making, tweaking and upgrading the regular old Kindle Fire HDs. And every time they do, they offload the older models for sale at HSN and QVC apparently.
It's still an excellent deal and I'm sorry I didn't get in on it before I bought mine the old fashioned way from Amazon ;o)
I hope you all enjoy them. Amazon has great customer service. I can't imagine their technical support is anything less than top notch. I haven't had to use it yet (thankfully!).
