There are so many scammers. There are ones that target foreign students threatening them with deportation if they don't pay money; a bunch of medical ones; the debit card ones. I actually got a text on my phone saying my bank was shutting my debit card down due to suspicion of fraud unless I contacted a specific number. No name of my financial institution, which happens to be a credit union and nothing to lead me to believe that they knew anything. lol.

Exactly. It's all done by mail. The IRS has to explain in detail what they claim you owe, and there has to be a paper trail.

My neighbor just told me his daughter got a phone call saying they had her son and would kill him if she didn't pay $5000.She knew her son was safe (he's about 8) and called the police. The police really can't do anything because the caller used a burner cell which can't be traced. I feel sorry for people who might fall victim to this kind of scam. You might have an older child and not be aware if they are safe or not.

I received this call last week on my cell. I called the number back (360-450-5227) from a phone at work. A foreign sounding guy actually answered and gave me his badge number and said he wanted my money. I asked how much he wanted and if was ok to give him a credit card (I don't think he got the sarcasm in my voice). He said he wanted all of my money to which I told him to pound sand and hung up. Probably shouldn't have called back but I was furious at the time and figured he wouldn't know who I was from a work number anyway! I did call the local IRS and left a message but probably won't hear back from them.

I've had two in a row on the IRS one, no caller ID available. Hubby got the Microsoft one Saturday, the guy hung up when my husband started drilling him and said "no, this is not Microsoft, you're a scammer!" Looks like these two are making the rounds.
