With the lousy company we had to put up with for nearly 20 years (rural, no other choice at the time), it went down all the time and the speeds were appallingly slow.  (Less than 3 mbps download!)

Once we were able to switch to Spectrum, it was an incredible and welcome change.  Reliable and speeds of around 300 mbps.  And when we had TV, internet and phone with them, we saved over $100 a month from our previous provider.  (Or non-provider!)

We've since dropped the TV and switched to streaming, which we could never do with our old company.

@SilleeMee - I'd contact your provider to ask if they can give you a reason for the dropped internet.  Maybe they just need to resend the signal or perhaps provide a new router/modem (if they supply that).

If Xfinity is doing work in your area, they usually post a notification you can see in your account. If you don't see anything, try their customer service forum. It's at forums dot xfinity dot com.

Thanks for that dot com info. I did check the Xfinity site for notifications about downtime but I didn't see anything. I look again.

That would not be normal. Ours only goes down sometimes if it's a thunderstorm or snowstorm depending on the severity. I would call your provider.

@SilleeMee  We had issued like that.  Got a new modem and still didn't fix the problem.  A service person was sent out from Spectrum and turmed out the connectors at the top of the pole were very loose.

How often does your internet go down?

Mine has gone down for at least a minute to 15 minutes each time and it has happened six times in the past 2-1/2 weeks. Is that normal??

@SilleeMee

We have Xfinity here in Littleton and supposedly they log the number of times you call and / or make a complaint online and after 3? number of customer service contacts for a complaint they send out a supervisor.

I had a couple guys here in the house maybe 2 years ago and they checked out the hardware and said it needed updating; also did something with the software on my PC and voila, service has never been better.

It was going out fairly often as yours was.

Since we have had fiber optics it's gone out twice. Both times were after midnight for about 10-15 mins.

When we had Internet with the cable company it never went out.

When we had Internet with AT&T it went out all the time. We bought our own router/modem. No more problems for a long time. When we did have a problem they would say our router/modem was not compatible? Yes it was or it never would have worked.

You may want to call your cable company about the frequent service interruptions.

In some parts of the country cable companies are upgrading to fiber service and this could be the source of the problem.

Yes, there are some upgrades going on, I found out later, but not sure what it is exactly. Probably fiber like you said.

I also have Xfinity and signed up for text alerts so get a text when there is an outtage and when it is expected to be restored, and then another text when it has been restored.   Also I can go online to my acct and do a diagnostic to see if it the problem is on my end.
