ITunes and Computer Question

[ Edited ]

I have an HP desktop computer, an HP Printer and an HP monitor.  I have ITunes loaded on my computer only for updating our IPhones and DH mini Nano.    I did place my own CD's on ITunes to put on the Nano but have not done that in several years.  I do not go into the ITunes store nor do I purchase anything from ITunes.

Today I went online and I saw a notice come on my screen telling me that I had a new ITunes update, also an Apple Software update that I have no clue what that would be for, an IClouds update, and Quicktime that I do not have or use.  I do not use ICloud either.  I do not have WIFI so I only use ITunes now to update our IPhones.  Knowing nothing about Apple I unchecked the ICloud one and also Quicktime....both were on the bottom of the notice and I kept the ITunes one and the Apple Software one thinking that it might have something to do with ITunes or our IPhones.  I installed them both and am now wondering what the Apple Software one is for since I have nothing other than ITunes on my computer.  Does anyone know what it might be and if so was I ok with installing it?

Edited to say that I did some checking and the Apple Software Update sets up weekly update notices at least I think that is what it might be for.  I went into my Task Scheduler and there it was set up to notify me weekly about Apple Updates.  I disabled it and now I hope that I did the right thing.  I check in ITunes for Updates and can do it right from there and do not use anything eles Apple.

Re: ITunes and Computer Question

There is nothing to worry about.  Every program, that includes iTunes, needs periodic updates to remain secure and functional.  Quicktime is a program to view certain types of movies and videos.  If you don't have it installed, you won't be able to view those types of videos.  If you ever get a message Quicktime is required, you can decide if you want to download it or not.

I've noticed in several of your posts you don't have Wifi.  You don't need Wifi to update your devices.  As long as your computer is hard wired to the internet and you can connect your phone and update.

@glb613

Thank you so much for clarifying.  I think I get it now.  I do update our IPhones through ITunes on our computer.  One of the reasons I use ITunes.  But I was wondering what the rest was and you explained it clearly.  Thanks again.
