Hi, I have yahoo mail on my IPhone AND IPad. Never had a problem till several days ago. A message pops up that says "Cannot Get Mail ...the connection to the server failed." Today I finally had time to drop by the Verizon store where I got my phone. There was a young girl minding the store. She advised me to delete the yahoo account, then start a new one. My concern is that I will lose all my emails that I have saved for one reason or another. Do you have any advice or tips that would be best for me to do? I DO get my email on my laptop. Thanks for your help. Demitra

Re: IPhone 5 - Email question

Your mail is saved on the server. You really should make a copy of the mail that's important to you whether you're having a problem with Yahoo or not.

Thanks, but are you saying if I delete the present account, when I make a new one, by old emails SHOULD be there? I guess none of them are vital, I just like to keep those from my daughterSmiley Happy I really appreciate information...I am technically challenged!

Re: IPhone 5 - Email question

If you delete your Yahoo account from the phone, you will only be telling the phone to "forget" it. Yahoo will not do anything. Then you can go right back and set up the same Yahoo account on the phone. That would be one option.

But based on the message it sounds more like you are having some sort of problem connecting. This could be because you are out of range of a tower, the phone company is down, or the phone is trying to use WiFi and failing.

I used to get that message when I had the WiFi on and my gateway was failing.

Yes. The mail isn't stored on your phone or computer. If you delete the account then add it again, all of your mail will be there as long as you use the same e-mail address and password.

Re: IPhone 5 - Email question

Comcast email sometimes has trouble connecting to the server on my phone and pad. I delete it and add it back all of the time with no trouble. All of my messages are right where they were when I add the account back. (same in inbox and different folders I have messages filed).

Go to settings, click on mail, click on your Yahoo account, click delete.

Hit the back button (still in settings, and still in mail section) now click on add account. Click Yahoo and set up the account (using your same user name and password as the one you just deleted).

If you need help with step by step directions - search google - how to set up Yahoo on iPhone. It might be a good idea for you to look this up, as the directions should provide you with the Yahoo incoming and outgoing message codes, which you will need when you do the set up. (NOTE: incoming/outgoing codes are always the same for all users setup, just make sure you are using the codes specific to Yahoo).
