IOS settings

As I was starting to stream an Amazon Prime movie on my iPad yesterday, I got a message telling me "something" about PROXY settings (no clue here!) but I was able to do as directed, going to SETTINGS> WiFi > clicked on my named network, and then turn the Proxy setting to OFF. (It had been on AUTO; a third choice is MANUAL). It did the job and I was able to watch my movie doing an AirPlay mirroring to my Apple TV. Can I just LEAVE that setting at OFF? I checked my iPhone and indeed, it IS on OFF for that setting. When would I use the manual or auto settings? Thanks so much!
