Even if you get to the bank right away and they refund your money immediately. It still takes time to get to the bank and get the process started. I always use a debit card even online because I have no credit card. But my parents will not which makes sense.

That is a law. The banks and credit unions have to immediately provide a provisional credit (up to $750) and they do an investigation. If the amount is over $750, it takes longer for the credit to hit your account.

Once the investigation is complete, they reverse the credit when you get your money back.

They can do this over the phone.

I wasn't talking about hacking your debit card and the thief charging. Yes, those fees are returnable. I'm talking about the hacker hacking INTO the ATM itself and retrieving ALL THE INFORMATION it has on you!!! Once that occurs, you're dead in the water. NO REFUNDS. They consider this theft as though the guy physically took the money out of your pocket. There are no guarantees from the bank. It's totally different.

The bank, by federal law, has to refund the money.

I don't know if there's a perfect way to avoid ID theft and fraud, but one of the best things you can do is to destroy any debit cards you have and never have a debit card again. If someone hacks your credit card, they may be able to make fraudulent purchases, but you can contest them when they show up on your account, and you shouldn't be responsible for any of them. If someone hacks and uses your debit card, they can pull your money right out of your checking account, and it will be up to you to prove the fraud and get your bank to restore your funds. We have not had or used a debit card in years.

I agree. I use my credit card for everything except restaurants. I use my debit card when I travel to get cash at a bank or ATM. A friend said she uses her debit card because she doesn't like having the big bill at the end of the month. I said "whether you spend it a litle at a time or all at the end of the month, it's the same amount of money". As you posted, a credit card isn't tied directly to you bank account and much easier to dispute the charges.

Re: IDENTITY THEFT AND WIPING OUT YOUR CHECKBOOK!

About 3weeks ago, I was looking at Christmas decorations right here on the Q, and the next thing I saw was we received your order! I never ordered them and never even saw the order pages to confirm. I immediately went to my order status and there were the 2 items I just looked at so I immediately hit the cancel button. I also called CS and they told me there was a glitch in the system but the amounts would drop off after midnight. I went to check my bank transactions and the amounts of course we're listed as pending and were there for almost 2 weeks. I went through h*ll calling QVC and the bank, QVC reps all giving me different excuses why I didn't have my refunds. I talked to supervisors who were of no help. I told them that they took money for items I never ordered and I wanted it. All I got were more and more excuses. The bank told me to file a dispute and I just received my refunds the other day. So if there was a glitch in the system, how many others were affected? Thank God I check my bank transactions online every single day. So always check your order status on the Q and your transactions. And another thing returns are taking longer and longer to receive your money back. One of mine took 20 days! I wish we could have the good old QVC days back.

I have read many places. It is unsafe to use a debit card for online transactions. A CC is more safe. I returned an item a few weeks ago, and the transaction went fast using a CC.
The old QVC is gone.

My family and I have had the RFID wallets since before they came to QVC. I also own three RFID Travelon handbags.
