I need help removing my antivirus program and installing another one.

I have had Avast for 2 years and everytime it updates I have problems using IE9. I've decided to go with Microsoft Security Essentials. Reading on their forum a lot of people have truble with Avast.

I know to go in programs and uninstall but don't I need to do a complete uninstall with their utility?
