Many predicted "the end of the laptop" when the Apple iPad came out. Today's TSV (12/13/15) looks like a scaled down version of a laptop to me !!

It is. Cell phones are getting bigger, so I don't think lap tops are going away. People want bigger screens.

@GCR18I can't imagine using my tablet to do some of the tasks I do on my laptop. I love the ease of the bigger screen.
I get that some people live with their phones and tablets, carry themn everywhere they go, use them every hour of the day.
That's not me and I just can't imagine it ever will be me. In fact, should I ever end my snowbird life and land in one nest, I expect to buy a desktop with the biggest screen I can afford at the time unless someone else suddenly becomes responsible for my financial life.

I use my tablet a lot but I won't give up my laptop. I like having the bigger screen on some of the things I do.

I have a desktop. Tried laptops for a while, but I am also a desktop gal. And forget tablets. Comcast sent me one free (I have no idea why) and I gave it to one of my daughters.
I have a flip phone that I use to answer text messages and for emergencies only.

It would be very difficult to function in an office/work setting without a laptop. Spreadsheets, presentations, newsletters, flyers, databases. Possible on a tablet, but good luck having any sort of productivity.
I use a tablet for fun and a laptop for work.

@GCR18, I know I would rather use myiPad than my iPhone. I know that makes me sound like a spoiled techie brat, but I do prefer a bigger screen to work with!

I only use the phone to talk or text. I prefer a bigger screen for the internet or gaming.

The latest prediction from the futurists is that artificial intelligence based devices will replace smartphones, tablets and laptops in the near future. They're pointing to Amazon's Echo as the precursor of the future. Your television screen or whatever display is in sight will display information if required, or the device will simply tell you the answer. I suspect they may be right this time around.
