I have a question re: going wireless........

I know I'm a little behind the times, but I get my internet through my cable company and it's a plug-in modem. I just purchased the HP tsv along with a new wireless printer. I also purchased my own wireless modem/router (from Amazon). My question is............do I need to have the cable company come and hook this up, or is it something I would be able to do myself??
